Diaries From The Forsaken: Entry I

A Broken Shield

Julius Fernandez is a young man in search of a niche. Growing up a biracial teen in a predominantly black neighborhood, he feels drawn to protect the community that raised him.

Taking his uncle’s advice, he enlists in the cadet program with the Maryland State Troopers and eventually graduates from their grueling police training program. At first, all is well, until he gets a taste of the department’s good old boy network. Not deterred, he becomes a full fledge trooper. Proud to wear the uniform, he does what he can to serve those he is sworn to protect, but he cannot ignore the systemic racism that plagues the department. After witnessing multiple acts of systemic discrimination, he finds himself torn between protecting his fellow boys in blue or serving the community. Determined to make a change, he must stand up to the discrimination—and face a dire cost.

Inspired by the film Serpico, and novels written by Raymond Chandler, and Michael Connelly, DIARIES FROM THE FORESAKEN offers readers a gripping fictionalized account of one man’s struggle and the black community’s experience with law enforcement in the pre-Black Lives Matter era.
